Racking System Certification

Industrial pallet racking has gained importance recently, after a number of accidents did occur in Ontario. CSA developed two standards: Specification and Use of Industrial Steel Storage Racks CSA A344.17 (R2022) & Design and Construction of Industrial Steel Storage Racks CSA A344.2-05.

Industrial plant owners, and health & safety committees at industrial facilities need to review the existing racks in the plants and ensure the following:

    1. Engineering documentation is available confirming that the industrial racks were designed and installed in accordance with current applicable standards and manufacturer’s specifications,
    2. The racks are periodically inspected for signs of damage or distress,
    3. Damage is immediately reported and attended to,
    4. An engineered repair procedure is available and implemented,
    5. Custom racks are designed or modified by professional engineers,
    6. Load rating signage is posted in conspicuous locations on the racks and workers trained not to overload the racks.

The Ministry of Labour directed that Pre-Start Health & Safety reviews be conducted for all new racking systems, under sec. 7 Reg.851, RRO 1990 or engineering assessments to be done under Sec. 54(1) k of the Act., Load bearing capacities should be clearly marked on all racking systems.

Canadian Eco Systems has the experience and expertise that can help you with certification of all kinds of Racking Systems, or even rectification of such problems as minor damages to racking system elements that could reduce the bearing capacity.

Canadian Eco Systems encourages you to maintain your due diligence by contacting CES office and putting the Racking problems in the capable hands of CES professionals.
